1996 Goldwing SE with 1,400 miles

I recently bought a 1996 Honda Goldwing SE with 1,400 original miles. The bike was kept inside a heated garage and had not been ridden in nearly two decades. It belonged to the original owner, who passed away, and his family finally decided to sell it just now because they are moving on after the wife died as well.

The condition overall is excellent. Paint is glossy, chrome is intact, and there is no visible corrosion. All body panels are present and uncracked. The tires were original, so I replaced them immediately. Fluids were changed before I even tried to start it.

After draining the fuel system and adding new plugs, the bike started up without much trouble. However, it runs unevenly at idle and stalls occasionally when warm. I suspect the carburetors need cleaning or rebuilding. No other warning lights, and the electronics, including the radio and cruise control, are functioning.

I'm going to go through the carbs next and inspect the timing belts while I'm in there. If anyone has tips for working on this model, I would appreciate the input.

Wow, that backstory though. Looks like you've got a keeper there. That feels like time traveling on two wheels. I agree with you, it sounds like the carbs need a deep clean. 20 years of sitting will gum them up and that's the natural course. While you're at it, have a look at those vacuum lines too.

Are you at the same altitude as where the bike comes from.
If not?
It may just need to be adjusted and synchronized.
